Mahjong Club

I created the Mahjong Club at my school. This past January (2019), I learned how to play the strategic game MAHJONG with the help of my Chinese teacher Mr. Zhou. I have been hooked ever since! So in this school year (2019-2020), I decided to make Mahjong club with a schoolmate. This is Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a fieldwork experience, creating this club has included lots of planning and organizing events. Teaching other schoolmates how to play a foreign game is NOT a simple task. I am very good at mahjong and I am slowly learning how to teach others how to play! I am having a lot of fun with this club and it has been very successful. Our current member count is 13 students and we are having a blast! We have Mahjong Movie Nights and we are soon going to have competitions in our club.

Izabella Curtis Ib Student 2021 Contemporary Arts Museum Houston Garrett Bradley: American Rhapsody Exhibit I got the opportunity to walk over to the Contemporary Art Museum (CAM). Garret Bradley is a local Houston filmmaker. Bradley made 3 films, the first was very long and I felt like the story was like the clipping of other stories but it allowed me to think in-depth about my place in society. while the other two stories surrounded themes of love and the ideology of colorism.  I placed this under Learning Outcome one,  Identify your own strengths and develop areas of growth. In this exhibition, I felt like I learned a lot from all the people and other viewers and developed a lot of growth when researching and understanding this artist.

Exit Through The Gift Shop Documentary (?)

Izabella Curtis Ib Student 2021 Exit Through The Gift Shop Documentary (?) Banksy I watched this documentary about street artist, and it was based around the famous British street artist Banksy but then it somehow became about this guy named Terri who was filming the documentary... It was really cool and funny but like I am not really sure how it switched to be about this documenter. He wasn't even a professional filmmaker! He was just some guy with a camera! Learning Outcome 2, Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process. Watching Exit Through the Gift Shop is learning outcome 2 because my challenges were actually watching this movie and trying not to laugh and the new skill I learned was more about Banksy and Mr. Brainwash (Terri) He later becomes one of the most famous street artist in America.

New Museum Building!

 Izabella Curtis  IB Student  MFAH New Contemporary Art Building  Being locked up at home for several months due to the Corona Virus, I cautiously decided that I wanted to meet up with some friends to look at the new building that opened up at the MFAH. I got to see Sierra, Jadyn, and Cricket. I haven't seen them in months! We first walked to a local coffee shop called Black Hole, then walked to the MFAH. The new art museum shows only modern and contemporary art. I have identified this activity with learning outcome 5, those outcome is sharing skills and knowledge I felt like I did this by going with my friends and sharing our thoughts about this very unique and special exhibition.
